Urine is sent for urine culture to look bacteria. Imaging of the scrotum and testicles is performed via ultrasound. We immediately offer anti-inflammatory medications, antibiotics, or a local nerve block depending on the cause. In urgent cases, we can offer immediate same day surgery.
If your pain lingers, we are able to offer you advanced microsurgical approaches to eliminate your pain. You are sedated through an IV in our surgery center. All procedures are outpatient and same-day surgery, meaning you immediately start feeling the benefits with minimal discomfort.
TREATMENT FOR TESTICULAR PAIN
In cases where the pain may be referred from your bladder, called interstitial cystitis, lifestyle changes that include a plant based diet, water (avoid coffee, tea, and soda), stress reduction (yoga and meditation), sleep improvement (treat sleep apnea and monitor REM sleep), exercise modification and weight loss can help.
If the pain is caused by inflammation or infection, strong anti-inflammatories and/or antibiotics are first line treatment. In the cases of chronic inflammation, treatment may be extended for a month or longer. Some cases are refractory to medication and advanced techniques may be indicated.
You are sedated through an IV in our surgery center. Advanced micro-invasive surgeries including small incision hydrocelectomy, micro-surgical cord denervation, vasectomy reversal, and epididymectomy can be offered as an elective outpatient surgery. In some cases, treatment for acute testicular pain can be emergent and immediate, same day scrotal surgery is available. All procedures are same-day. Pelvic and scrotal blocks are performed simultaneously under anesthesia so that you can recover quickly, comfortably, and with minimal pain in the comfort of your home.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How is the Advanced treatment for testicular pain better?
We use advanced diagnostics to get to the root cause quick. We have advanced micro-invasive techniques in our outpatient center to treat your pain definitively. This targeted millimeter accuracy improves outcomes and minimizes side effects.
What is the presentation of testicular pain that could be considered Urgent or Emergent?
Sudden severe, unremitting pain could indicate a twisting of the testicle or severe testicular infection. We have same-day visits available to get you in quickly. We have advanced ultrasound available to immediately diagnose you and we have same day surgery available to immediately treat you. If this is not treated, sometimes within hours, you could risk testicular loss.
What are chronic causes of testicular pain?
Chronic testicular pain is much more complicated. Chronic causes include 1) lingering infection or inflammation called epididymitis, 2) referred pain from the bladder and pelvic floor called interstitial cystitis, 3) nerve pain, or pain from a clog in the sperm drainage tube (vas deferens). No matter the cause, we have a treatment for it.
Do antibiotics help testicular pain?
Antibiotics can help infectious causes. But they are often over-used and abused. Repetitive antibiotics can lead to bacterial resistance and creation of bad multi drug resistant organisms in your body.
When can I return to work?
Most patients can return to work in 24 hours.
Does insurance cover these treatments?
Yes! All major insurances including Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross, Cigna, Humana, United, Medicare, and Medicare advantage cover treatments.
What are micro-invasive treatments available for my testicular pain?
Treatment options depend on the cause of the pain. In the case of acute pain from a twisting of the testicle, we can surgically untwist it using a single small incision in the scrotum (detorsion). If the cause is because of fluid collection around the testicle, we can use a similar incision to open and remove the sac that is causing the fluid formation (hydrocelectomy or spermatocelectomy). If the pain is caused by large veins in the scrotum (varicocele) or nerve pain, microscopic varicocelectomy or cord denervation can be performed using a small 1cm incision. Finally, if the pain is caused by backing up of sperm because of a clogged vas deferns, sometimes because of a prior vasectomy, a vasectomy reversal is an option and can also be done micro-surgically using a small 1cm incision.
