Minor Testing

You are sedated through an I in our surgery center. There is no pain, no incisions, and no discomfort. Advanced Interstim testing is performed by placing small wires the size of thread down to the pelvic nerves. This is done via a small skin puncture similar to a blood draw. You are sent home after a short 10 minute procedure.

Minor Procedure

You are sedated through an IV in our surgery center. Advanced Interstim is performed and a small battery and soft wire are implanted under the skin. The procedure typically takes 30 minutes and you are sent home the same day. You should expect improvement within the first week.

How Does Advanced Interstim Work?

Advanced Nervestim fixes the root cause of bowel dysfunction by fixing the pelvic nerves. It is a long term solution with incredible precision and accuracy.

How Is Advanced Interstim Done?

This is done in two parts. First, a painless test is performed under anesthesia in our procedure center to determine if there is a pelvic nerve or muscle problem. Small wires the size of thread are placed through the low back through a skin puncture, similar to a small needle used for blood draws. There are no cuts or incisions. This wirelessly transmits information to a Samsung phone to record information. If this minor test determines there is a pelvic nerve problem, then a permanent nerve stimulator is implanted under the skin. This is done with sedation in our procedure center in approximately 30 minutes. The permanent device is hidden and completely underneath the skin. For patients who do not want anesthesia, this procedure can be done with local numbing medicine only.

    What causes fecal incontinence?
    Fecal incontinence is caused by dysfunction of the pelvic nerves or pelvic muscles. This dysfunction leads to bowel/stool frequency, bowel/stool urgency (the sudden urge to have a bowel movement), and sometimes fecal incontinence (loss of fecal/stool control). This can be aggravated with too much caffeine, soda, or alcohol intake as well as neurologic diseases. The experts at Advanced can help treat the root cause.
